Episode IV: The rise of Android?

Oh the iPhone… Not so long ago it was the smart phone to own.

All that 3G goodness wrapped up in a shiny Apple badged case, ready to let you control your digital empire from anywhere in the world.

But what happened to the iPhone 4? It had so much promise – a better camera (2 even), video calling, multi-tasking, accurate signal bars, maybe even fully functional Bluetooth. There was that strange incident with a test model being left in a Californian bar and threats made to the people previewing their find.

But, come launch day, millions of units flew out the doors of Apple stores, picked up by brand and tech hungry consumers (who lapped up the ‘leak’).

Within days though the interweb was awash with stories of poor reception (surely worse reception or is that just NZ networks? – Ed.), dropped calls and problems ‘holding the phone the wrong way’.

Apple has done it’s best to quell the naysayers offering a press conference, free phone bumpers or a refund. But still someone had to make a tongue in cheek video of the saga.

Best of all NMANews chose to style the ‘episode’ as a good vs evil affair in the Star Wars tradition with Steve Jobs firstly defeating Darth Bill Gates then turning to the dark side and using his powers to crush the likes of Nokia, htc and Blackberry.

Watch the video below (if you’re not squeamish about cartoon violence):

Does the iPhone 4 suck? We await reports – in the meantime does this spell the end for iPhone dominance and the rise of Android and other competing mobile platforms?
