I too had two phone calls from an Indian guy at "virtual PC" Napier yesterday and the day before that. Was not falling for any crap he was trying to sell me. Came across very rude and argumentative! After the first phonecall (which ended with me telling him to loose my number and bugger off) he rings back the next day!!! Couldn't believe it. Is there nothing we can do to lock these guys up and throw away the key?

hi, just got a call off this woman off a private number and was told the same as they told Leila January 18th, 2012 at 4:46 am.

I just felt like laughing but kept them on the phone, I said your calling from India and claiming you work alongside Windows, But she says, she is in Manchester... I asked what i should do now and she said :- 1- switch on computer, 2- press windows + R buttons together then enter some code.

BLAG BLAG BLAG!!!

She wanted remote sccess to my computer, I said I would like to confirm who they are first and asked for a number who I could call back...I was given 0208 133 9334.
Now I was off the phone gave me a chance to google them, Little did I know how easy it would be!!!
I entered the number on the google search bar and here i am!!!
Do not fall for them!!!
I rang them back and told them everything I now knew but they just kept telling me I was mistaken!!! couldn't believe it

Just had a call from "Virtual PC Doctor in Napier", I was trying really hard not to laugh as this guy rattled of his spiel about viruses and worms. When he (inevitably) asked me what operating system I had, I told him I had DOS. He told me there was no problems with DOS. I dont think he picked up on any of my sarcasim, however I was only able to waste his time for a few minutes. You-cant-hack-me has my respect, a whole hour, thats awsome! This is the second call I've had from these guys so I will be trying to break the 1 hour record next time :)

If you're not IT literate, just hang up on them, if you are, string them along

Hello, got a call yesterday from a guy saying he worked for Windows and that they kept getting reports of errors and visuses from my computer. I immediately thought it was someone trying to sell some antivirus or something, told them I wasn't the owner of the computer and underage and to call back tommorow, hoping they wouldn't call back.

So this morning I got about five phonecalls from 04259981533 which was the same number as yesterdays. I had planned on checking up on them on the internet before answering but eventually I answered since I was in my bed and forgot I wasn't supposed to answer. So anyway, they were pretty good at persuading me they were from Windows, they said they were the 'computer servicing centre for Windows' or something along those lines.

They actually had me believing them, and stupidly I gave them remote access to my computer. I was pretty worried by then, but they'd shown me all these errors on my computer already and although I wasn't completely sure what they were talking about (they said it was from the internet but the logs said the errors were comming from Bonjour, which has something to do with Itunes) I was worried my computer really was infected though. So I allowed them remote access and gave them my name, my phone number and my email address. I honestly thought I might have to watch as they downloaded some sort of virus but they didn't, they downloaded a scan thing, which showed up all these 31,000 infections on my computer. I was pretty shocked, this is a brand new laptop, only three weeks old and I told them that. They just said it was even more urgent for me to get their help.

Then they tried to sell me their protection from £75 to £250 at which point I realised they were scammers. Couldn't believe I'd let them into my computer, but still, unbelievably, had the notion that they might be genuine. So I dold them I had no money and could I take the name of their product so that I might go download it once I had the money, they tried to offer me a deal for £45 for two months and said this wasn't a product, this was just them trying to protect my computer. I said no I didn't have the money. Then they got desperate and asked for credit cards, I said I didn't have any, they asked me to find a card, anybodies card, so that I could pay them. I told them I'd phone them back and they gave me this number 02081339334.

While I was on the phone I went onto my internet and looked up this number and found myself here. that was when I cut off the connection to the remote guy and told them I'd phone back. they let me go then.

I did a system restore immediately afterwards so hopefully they haven't left anything bad in my computer. Can't believe I fell for it, I was sure at the beggining that they were scammers, but they had me convinced. I still had doubts but not enough doubts to deny them access to my computer. I can imagine a lot of people could fall for this.

Good job Melissa, keep an eye on your credit file over the next few months to make sure no one is applying for credit or other accounts like mobile service using your personal details. We believe many of these call centres often have copies of customer databases from large corporations which have been 'borrowed' at best... Also be sure to tell everyone you know about the offer - these companies seem to be ramping up activities in Australia again with the cold calls and you will be helping others by warning them.

I am in australia and yesterday i Received a call from a woman named jenny with an indian accent claiming to be from money saving expert which she claimed was commisioned by the australian government and consumer affairs watchdog to contact customers and organize bank fee refunds. I was told the same as the others- refund total 3647,and to call Marvin gibbs on 0280064494 and quote reference number ST 00783. I didn't call him and she rang back asking why I had not followed through. Unfortunately I had already told her I wanted a cheque so she now has my name, address and date of birth, feel like a bloody idiot! Rang my bank straight away and had them put a note on my file, they were already aware of this scam.

Sorry to hear that Rion – speak with your bank about the payment, especially if you used a credit card to pay the advanced fee for the refund. I’d also advise you mention what happened to everyone you know/work with as that would at least give you some benefit in knowing you may prevent others from also falling victim.
